The Hemmer residence is a restoration of the Kennedy-Southgate House in the Historic Licking Riverside District of Covington, Kentucky. It is an 1847 residence that had been previously divided into ten apartments and was now being restored to a single-family residence. Before the Civil War, Harriett Beecher Stowe was a frequent guest at the residence and had written several chapters of 'Uncle Tom's Cabin' while visiting there.

The perimeter of the property had Stewart wrought iron fence installed in the late 1800's. Only about a quarter of the original fence remained and it was in desperate need of restoration.

Stewart Iron Works years of preservation experience made it possible to restore the remaining historic fence and to provide new hand worked iron fence that is identical to the original but is coated with modern longer lasting finishes.

Our extensive archival library of historic wrought iron designs provided the inspiration for accurate creation of new terrace and balcony railing, window grilles, gates and a mailbox that complimented the Greek Revival style of the home.
